M3 is getting a bunch of maintenance done this weekend

Been getting stuff in the mail the last few days to handle some much needed maintenance for my ‘12 E92 m3 this weekend.

The oil change kit arrived a few days ago, Castrol 10w-60 Supercar.

Today arrived a Macht Schnell engine air filter and 8x NGK spark plugs. I picked a MS air filter, because the forums say there is a butt dyno effect of more noise and about a stickers worth of horsepower . Regarding the spark plugs, when I take out the old ones, I am interested to see what plugs CarMax used when they were diagnosing my now “famous” !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Fun fact - I recently crossed 4 years of ownership.

I was going to handle my diff oil too, but I am going to put that off until warmer weather. It needs to be level and my plan is to back it out in my driveway onto my R ace R amps so its level, but I still can get under the back.

My plan is to disassemble the airbox stuff to get the spark plugs done, then on the reassembly insert the new engine air filter. Start it up, everything good, then move on to the oil change.

Mmmm good clean routine maintenance.

Does your air box also require  unscrewing like 17 bolts?

Nice. Currently I’ve been chasing a CEL in my Z3 to get it inspected which has been fun. My favorite filters are ITG foam filters, can’t say much about the noise tho since my Dinan intake was loud with the regular Dinan one too.

I’ll have to check out macht Schnell, I always love knowing every option

That is some seriously expensive oil.

The castrol full synthetic I just bought was 22 bucks per 5 quart jug. Though it isn’t BMW approved.

It is basically $100-130 in oil depending on where you buy.

I think I have seen some time attack guys get some custom sized ITG ones? maybe its another brand I am thinking of.

I don’t understand why BMW did this most cars have a few spring clamps holding the air box together.

BMWs like Nah dude it needs a bolt like every 3cms or it’ll fall apart.

My wifes Crosstrek has some of those spring like clamps and they are a pain in the.....
Specially on a 140k vehicle that has god knows how much road grime/salt/etc.

Yeah they make both drop in filters and cone sized ones that you have to kinda figure out what size to order. Definitely a better filter quality than a K and N tho which is basically what the Dinan is, but with a sweet blue color instead of red haha

yeah MS looks like a KN filter to me too, but couldn’t find much info on guys buying KN filters for my car .

Looks like majority buy MS or AFE for my car.
